About Conference

2020 Shenzhen International Conference on Statistics and Data Science will be held in Shenzhen, China from December 5 to December 6, 2020. The Conference will be conducted both online and offline, highlighting the latest developments in statistics and data science.

 

This is the first international conference organized by Department of Statistics and Data Science at Southern University of Science and Technology since its establishment in April 2019. The Department is committed to organize the Shenzhen International Conference on Statistics and Data Science annually.

 

No conference fee will be charged for this forum. Except for the specially invited experts, all other participants who register independently shall bear all expenses themselves.

Introduction of the Organizer

Established in April 2019, the Department of Statistics and Data Science aims to build up a world-class educational training and research centre. The department is committed to cultivating top-notch talent with solid scientific knowledge, active thoughts, innovative awareness, global vision for the country. The department has 2 subject directions, Statistics and Data Science, which cover a broad array of research areas including Biostatistics, Clinical Trials, High Dimensional Data Analysis, Random Matrix, Time Series, Bayesian Statistics, Financial Statistics, Limit Theory in Probability and Statistics, Data Science and Big Data Technology.

 

At present, the department has an undergraduate program as well as two graduate programs (M.Phil. and PhD). The department is in the process of developing a Major Program in Data Science and Big Data Technology. In 2019, the first batch of 38 undergraduate students in Statistics received the bachelor degree from Southern University of Science and Technology (hereinafter SUSTech). Five M.Phil. students in Statistics also graduated the same year. There are currently 26 M.Phil. students, 19 PhD students in Statistics and 2 Postdoctoral Fellows. As the department grows in size and strength, the number of graduate students is expected to rise substantially from the current level and the areas of graduate studies will also expand to include Data Science and Big Data Technology.

 

We currently have 12 full-time (1 of them will join soon) and 4 jointly appointed faculty members including 4 Chair Professors, 4 Professors, 3 Associate Professors and 5 Assistant Professors. All faculty members of the department have extensive overseas study or work experiences. One member is an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians, an IMS Medallion Lecturer. Two members are the winners of the prestigious State Natural Science Award (2nd class). At present, the department makes effort to recruit high-level talents from domestic and overseas.
