1. About Conference
In view of the current situation of COVID-19 prevention policy in Shenzhen, the 2021 Shenzhen International Conference on Biostatistics, organized by the Department of Statistics and Data Science and the Center for Biostatistics, Southern University of Science and Technology, will be postponed to 21 August – 22 August 2021 (https://cbs.sustech.edu.cn/#/news/conference/158). The Conference aims to bring together world-renowned scholars to share groundbreaking ideas in the field of biostatistics.
The objective of this conference is to create an interactive platform for high-level scientific discussions among top-notch researchers on the latest development in Biostatistics. It is also the conference mission to foster interdisciplinary exchange and cooperation, boosting our continuous collective effort to shape the roadmap for the development of biostatistics in the era of Big Data.

5. Introduction of the organizers

Established in April 2019, the Department of Statistics and Data Science aims to institute a world-class learning and research centre. The department is committed to cultivating top-notch talents with solid scientific knowledge, proactive thoughts, innovative awareness, and a global vision. The department now offers two undergraduate programs: major in Statistics, and major in Data Science and Big Data Technology. Key specialized research areas of our faculty members include Mathematical Statistics, Financial Statistics, Biostatistics and Data Science.
At present, the faculty comprises 14 members, with three additional newcomers anticipated to join the department after summer. The department has an international faculty team that consists of top-notch researchers including 1 national distinguished expert, 1 invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians, 2 honor recipients of the prestigious State Natural Science Award (2nd class), 1 Changjiang Chair Professor, 2 IMS Fellows and 1 IMS board member, 1 Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, ICSA member, 1 IMS Medallion Lecturer, 1 selected member of Shenzhen distinguished talent program, 1 selected member of Shenzhen high-level national leader talent program.

The Center for Biostatistics, housed within the Department of Statistics and Data Science and established in July 2020, is part of the college of Science, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). At present the center research team consists of 21 members, including 3 Chair Professors, 5 Professors, 5 Associate Professors, 5 Associate Researchers, 2 Assistant Researchers, and 1 Chief Physician. Besides the aforementioned research team, the Center also invited a group of consultative members of diverse expertise, with a wide range of academic affiliations such as School of Medicine (SUSTech), Department of Biology (SUSTech), Department of Chemistry (SUSTech), Southern University of Science and Technology Hospital, Shenzhen Children’s Hospital, and Peking University Shenzhen Hospital. The Center for Biostatistics will be undertaking a blend of high-level applied and methodological research, working at the interface of statistical, biomedical and computational sciences. In addition, the center also serves as an advisory unit for biomedical organizations (such as hospitals) and government institutions.
The Center for Biostatistics is still in its infancy and currently, it focuses on complex data analysis (including precision medicine and public health research), adaptive clinical trials and data analysis, and statistical omics data analysis (including biology and efficient computing technology).
