SUSTech welcomes students to 2019 postgraduate summer camp

Earlier this week, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) launched its postgraduate admissions summer camp. SUSTech President Chen Shiyi joined Vice President/Provost Tang Tao attended the ceremony, which saw more than 600 graduated students from top universities around mainland China and around the world descend upon campus, selected from thousands of applications. Vice Dean and Chair Professor of the SUSTech Graduate School Yang Shuanghua presided over the opening ceremony.

President Chen Shiyi welcomed the students and briefed them about SUSTech. He said that to get the best guidance during their precious postgraduate time, students should go to where the best teachers gather. SUSTech has gathered many excellent scholars and welcomes outstanding students to join the SUSTech faculty in the future. His speech delighted the audience.

Vice President/Provost Tang Tao gave a lecture titled “Mathematics Promotes Modern Science and Technology.” In his lecture, Tang Tao explained the influence of modern mathematics in a wide range of industries. He explained how mathematicians had contributed to modern communications.

Vice Dean and Chair Professor of the SUSTech Graduate School Yang Shuanghua went into detail about SUSTech and its role in innovation.

The opening ceremony marked the start of the four-day summer camp, in which campers will visit different departments across campus. The attending campers will attend lectures, visit laboratories, talk with scholars and partake in various assessments, in order to learn about life at SUSTech. The summer camp is sponsored by the SUSTech Graduate School, with the support of many departments and schools across campus. Thousands of students applied for positions at the summer camp.
