1. Introduction

The Global Statistics and Data Science Young Scholars Forum hosted by the Department of Statistics and Data Science of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) aims to provide a common platform for young scholars in Statistics and Data Science to present their best research outcomes, exchange their research ideas and discuss their ambition of contributing to the development of a world-class statistics and data science department at SUSTech. Through this Forum, we hope to select and recruit outstanding researchers who share our vision and ambition to become a world-class statistics and data science department.

5. Qualifications and Benefits

Young Faculty (Associate / Assistant professor)

1.  Qualifications

Under the age of 40.

Doctoral degree obtained from internationally renowned universities and institutes; or Ph.D. degrees from Chinese universities and have more than 36 months of overseas work experience, with a formal teaching or research position in famous overseas universities and research institutes.

2. Support Policies

Research startup funds：A maximum of CNY 4 million in research funding is provided by local government and the university within 5 years. Or will be discuss case by case.

Additional support:  At least 1 PhD student per year fully paid by the university and unlimited numbers of post-doctoral fellows partially subsidized by the university. Additional research assistant professors (RAPs), research scholars and research assistants hired by the faculty member her/himself.

3. Remuneration

Salary: Globally competitive salary (one of the best in the sector); Preferential policy of individual income tax, income tax of qualified high-level talents will be compensated by local government to a maximum of 15% for qualified candidates.

Insurances: Shenzhen’s highest level of retirement insurance, medical insurance, unemployment insurance, industrial injury insurance, maternity insurance and housing provident funds. And provide commercial supplementary medical insurance and high-level commercial medical insurance.

Subsidy: The university will assist in applying for the corresponding talent programs according to the national, provincial and municipal talent policies. Successful personnel will receive the relevant program funding / reward.

4.Benefits

Housing: Temporary on-campus apartments provided or subsidies to support off-campus rental housing.

Other benefits: Permanent residence or resident visa service for scholars and family (spouse and children);Service of children’s education in SUSTech affiliated preschool, primary school and middle school.

About the Department:

Established in April 2019, the Department of Statistics and Data Science (hereinafter SUSTech) aims to build a world-class educational training and research centre. The department is committed to cultivating top-notch talent with solid scientific knowledge, active thought, innovative awareness, and global vision for the country. The department has two subject directions, Statistics and Data Science, which cover a broad array of research areas including mathematical statistics, biostatistics, financial statistics and data science.

The department currently has 14 full-time faculty members (3 of them will join soon) and 4 jointly appointed professors, including 4 Chair Professors, 3 Professors, 5 Associate Professors, 6 Assistant Professors. All faculty members of the department have extensive overseas study or work experience, including one invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians, two winners of the prestigious State Natural Science Award (2nd class), one Changjiang Chair Professor, two IMS Fellows, one Royal Statistical Society Fellow, one IMS Medallion Lecturer.
