The project is hiring 1 postdoctoral fellows at SUSTech for AI and Big data

PIs at SUSTech

Prof. Bing-Yi JING

Prof. Jing received his Ph.D degree in Statistics from University of Sydney in 1993. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Australian National University from 1992-1994, supervised by the world well-known Statistician Prof. Peter Hall. He worked at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology as Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Director of the Center for Statistical Science from 1994-2022. Prof. Jing is now a chair professor at the Department of Statistics and Data Science at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), the head of the Big Data Institute at SUSTech. His research interests include Probability and Statistics, Financial Econometrics, Reinforcement Learning, Network Data Analysis, Bioinformatics and etc. He undertook many pioneering research in several fields and achieved groundbreaking results. He has published over 100 papers and his research work appeared in many high-impact scientific journals. Prof. Jing was awarded the State Natural Science (Second Class) in 2015, the Research Excellent in Natural Science by the Ministry of Education of China both in 2010 and 2015. Prof. Jing was a Fellow at American Statistical Association (ASA), Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS), an elected member at International Statistical Institute (ISI), the head of Chinese Association for Applied Statistics-Transition of the Professional Committee on Multivariate Analysis Application. He was associate editors for 7 international journals.

In early December 2023, Prof. Jing's group, together with IDEA (International Digital Economy Academy), released the 34B Chat model, which had super strong multi-round dialogue capabilities. It ranked first in the Open LLM Leaderboard supported by the Hugging Face community in the United States, which is dedicated to tracking, ranking, and evaluating the performance of large language models. At the same time, it topped the Open compass list of models of the same scale released by Shanghai AI Lab, becoming one of the most advantageous open-source 34B instruction fine-tuning models at that time.
